The Traitors has been renewed for a third season in the UK before the second has even aired.
Studio Lambert‘s smash format hosted by Claudia Winkleman has already opened up casting for Season 3 and will likely air towards the backend of next year or early the following one. Season 2 will air soon, with schedling coming in due course.
The BAFTA-winning guessing game format sees 22 strangers aim to win up to £120,000 ($146,000). Three ‘traitors’ are given the opportunity to ‘murder’ contestants, while remaining ‘faithfuls’ have to smote them out, and the group compete in daily challenges to keep the prize fund steady.
Last year’s first season was a runaway hit, praised for its diverse casting, scheduling and ability to provide ‘watercooler’ moments. A second U.S. series, which airs on Peacock with celebrities, will also air shortly. Distributor All3Media International has struck a wealth of deals for The Traitors over the past year. The Australian version was recently canceled.
“Expect to see more psychological gameplay, exciting challenges and of course Claudia at the helm,” said Kalpna Patel-Knight, BBC Head of Entertainment about Season 3. “It will be a thrilling ride for both avid fans and newcomers to the series for sure. The BBC will always remain faithful to The Traitors.”
Studio Lambert boss Stephen Lambert added: “The Traitors has been so warmly received by viewers, critics and award juries alike. Claudia and the team look forward to keeping audiences on the edge of their seats again with ever more thrilling missions and exceptional players competing in this gripping game of bluff and skill.”
Created in the Netherlands by IDTV, an All3Media company, The Traitors format was further developed with the RTL Creative Unit and originally produced by IDTV for RTL4. All3Media International handles format and tape sales worldwide.
