Who is James Cleverly’s wife Susie?
Susie met James at the University of West London, with the latter obtaining a degree in hospitality management in 1991.
The pair would go on to get married in 2000, after which Susie gave up her job in an IT training company following the birth of their first child, Freddy. They then went on to have another son, named Rupert.
In 2021, Susie was diagnosed with breast cancer but was able to beat the illness successfully after going straight to her doctor.
Posting on Instagram in the immediate aftermath of her diagnosis, she wrote: ‘Luckily I caught it early…I didn’t find a lump, I found puckering of my skin, fortunately I knew this to be a sign and went straight to my Doctor.’
When she and James were in attendance at the state banquet at the Palace of Versailles in the world-renowned Hall of Mirrors, she revealed in an interview with The Telegraph that she almost fainted just as King Charles and Queen Camilla were about to enter.
They were sitting at a 60-metre table along with 160 guests, including A-list celebrities such Hugh Grant and Sir Mick Jagger, when a spell of dizziness threatened to humiliate her at the worst possible time.
‘The King and Queen had just entered the room and we all stood. Suddenly I felt really dizzy, I went deaf and then my vision went and I felt really sick. James made me sit down and got me some water.
‘I managed to stand up and curtsy just as King Charles and Queen Camilla walked past, but it could have been a disaster. So embarrassing,’ she said.
After a a single mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy, she successfully completed her course of treatment in April 2023.
Susie has also worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the illness, having helped fundraise breast cancer research for Foreign Sisters UK, part of Cancer Research UK.

Asked by The Telegraph if her cancer diagnosis changed her perspective on life, she said: ‘I’ve never been a great worrier, but now I embrace everything.
‘You can always be waiting for something better or something different to be around the corner, but anything can happen in the blink of an eye that changes everything. And that made me think, this is my life.
‘Even if I’m cancer-riddled for the rest of it, I’ve got to embrace what I’ve got. I have beautiful children, a loving husband… I should just enjoy it.’
